As the clay is in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand. Jeremiah 18:6

I have a college friend who has started a second career. She is an artist, more specifically a sculptor, or potter. Recently she posted pictures of some of her work online. I studied her nature sculptures of rabbits, loons, owls, and a cheerful little bird—I think it was a Carolina wren. 

Now we don't live close to each other, so I haven't seen her at work, but I can imagine her hands sculpting a big lump of clay into exactly the form that she wants it to take. As I zoomed in on the photos I could see all the amazing detail work that gives life to each of her pieces ...

Then he said to me, "Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia. Daniel 10:12-13

Prayer is powerful. It changes situations, people, and events. Daniel was one of the most faithful pray-ers in the Bible. We can take away much from his example.

Ezra 1:1-5

In today's podcast, we're talking about the phrase "stirred up."

Have you ever felt stirred up about something? Yesterday you weren't the least bit bothered, but now all of the sudden it seems that a certain situation, person, or injustice is all you can think about.

Well in these verses, and many other places in the Old Testament, we see God stirring up people to do something, and it just may be that God is doing the same thing in your life.

In today's Reflections we are thinking about Philippians 4:8 (NIV).

Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.

Meditating is a bit like marinating. If you've ever soaked a piece of meat in a marinade, you know that the meat emerges from the process so much more flavorful and tender than when it started. God can do the same with us when we meditate on His word.

Listen in to today's short reflection as I share why this verse was important to me this week.

Today we are praying about trust. Perhaps like me, you may sometimes have a problem fully trusting God because of current or past hurts and troubles. You're afraid of being hurt again. And, when we're honest, we wonder why God allowed these things to happen in the first place.

This world is a beautiful, messed up place, and both beauty and evil spill over into our lives. Let's use scripture to help us pray through our brokenness and healing — and our place in God's plan to redeem the world.

Today we're going to pray through two scriptures:

  1. Psalm 9:8-10
  2. John 16:33

Do you ever feel that you've messed up too much for God to forgive you? 

That is a lie. When we confess our sins and accept that Jesus died on the cross and took the penalty for our sins on Himself, we have the assurance that we are forgiven. 

Once we have established that relationship with Christ, when the Holy Spirit convicts us of any new sins we've committed we simply confess them and let the Spirit work in our lives to heal us of what needs healing. God is our God of second chances.

Let's pray through that today using 2 Chronicles 7:14. "If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
